Hyacinth Macaw: Goliath
Goliath was hatched on February 2, 1997 at Willow Creek Aviary. The
Hyacinth's homeland is Brazil, where only an estimated 3000 - 5000 remain in
the wild. Efforts are in process to study and improve their nesting areas in
the hopes of preserving this magnificent macaw. Goliath is truly our "Blue
Angel" and we love him very much. His diet consists of macadamia nuts,
hazelnut, almonds, walnuts, Harrison's pellets, fresh fruit & vegies, large
hookbill seed & treats as well as many cooked "birdie favorites". He is still
being handfed once a day as the hyacinth takes a little longer to wean than
do other species. His favorite activity is hanging upside down and playing
with toys and also playing with his mama on the floor while lying on his
back.
