This is my first post. I live in Lexington, KY with my husband, son and 2 Moluccans and 1 B&G. Moluccan vs. B&G personality: different, but both wonderful. Our blue and gold is a 2 3/4 year old male who acts like a cockatoo. Very cuddly, friendly, laid-back, enjoys interacting with people. Playful like a puppy or kitten. The cockatoo (male, 4 in May) is more hard-headed and, of course, the mechanical engineer/escape artist. Also loving, cuddly, smart, manipulative. The other cockatoo (female, around 8) is a breeder who was injured. She was wild when we got her in August, but she is turning into a cuddly baby. I couldn't choose between the two species. Both are fantastic! Hello there Stephe. I meant to write you when I saw your reference to Dr. Jerry LaBonde, who is my avian vet. My husband and I live in Denver, near DU. We are owned by amazons, poicephalus, a rowdy yellow collared macaw, and an congo african grey. The "flock" also includes cats, dogs, fish, and a house bunny. Another person, whose name escapes me at the moment (Sharon?), lives in Fort Collins. I must contact her soon as the entire household is anticipating a move to the Loveland-Fort Collins area. At least there is a vet school there! I hear there are 288 vets in that area. There is an avian vet I have heard about in Loveland and a couple of large operation bird breeders there too. Where did you obtain your bird? Denise Denver, CO ------------------------------ From: pwmurray@key-net.net (Pat Murray) Date: Mon, 4 Mar 1996 18:41:44 -0500 Subject: Re: Your Macaws Dave & Milo; >Are you a bird breeder? What kind of birds do you breed? On May 3, 1989, my husband was involved in a trucking accident. He spent 6 of the last 7 years at home recovering. In November '89 I found 2 handicapped Zebra Finches in a pet store and brought them home. I'd never owned birds before. I'd owned hooded rats, iguanas, gerbils, mice, snakes, guinea pigs, rabbits, dogs, cats, fish, horses, mules; but never a bird. I was positive he'd throw the birds and I both out of the house. But he fell in love with them and a year later we had 90 birds. A year after that we had about 200 birds and were hand-feeding 20-30 babies at a time. So Murray's Feather Factory was born. We never sold babies to pet stores (I don't like the way most of them care for their birds.). When my husband's recovery progressed to the point where he resembled a human being again, we stopped breeding and started cutting down on stock. We haven't bred anything in about 3 years, but I still have some birds left that need to be breeders. They were all rescued from abusive or neglectful situations and most of them are mean as grass from being tormented. Thanks for the interest. "Call" any time! "E" you later! Janis > Hey, you have any of those hot red-headed numbers? -- Milo Milo; What kind of red-heads are you looking for? I've got a very sweet White Eyed Conure who has red on her head. She's a honey!
