E-Brazil, in Pernambuco and Bahia
Description:
Length: 75 cm
Plumage general dark blue, more pale and greenish on breast and underside.
Periopthalmic ring and naked patches besides the lower mandible pale yellow.
Bill black
Legs dark grey
Iris dark brown
Habitat:
Dry limestone lanscapes
Nutrition:
Palm fruits
Breeding:
Nesting holes were found in limestone cliffs.

Add. Notes:
This is probably one of the rarest parrots in the world. In earlier times
this species has been descripted only from some specimens of private
collectors. The first proven field observations were taken by H. Sick
in 1978. The area where the birds occure a far remote and hardly explored
up to now.
Comparing this species with the other two of Anodorhynchus we see a very
close relationship to
A. glaucus . Forshaw estimates that
both may be "isolates of one species".
