Macaw Compendium

Aratingidae / Aratinginae

Genus Anodorhynchus:

In this genus one may find the "Blue Macaws" except the Spix's Macaw which has to represent a genus of its own. See: Cyanopsitta.
These birds in general are fairly big with a tail more than body length. The bill is huge with a long downward bended upper mandible. As a main difference to the other macaws we find a naked periophthalmic ring and the ceres, lores and cheeks are fully feathered. Sexual dimorphism is absent.
Anodorhynchus glaucus Glaucous Macaw
Anodorhynchus hyacinthinus Hyacinth Macaw
Anodorhynchus leari Lear's Macaw,
